How to block gambling sites and betting sites on your phone

To block gambling sites on your phone, install EZOBLOCKER and switch on the Gambling category. Your phone sends its DNS lookups, encrypted, to our servers, which stop betting and casino addresses on our lists before the page loads. It works in browsers and apps on iPhone and Android.

How do I block gambling sites on my phone?

  1. Install EZOBLOCKER from the App Store or Google Play.
  2. Open the app and switch on the Gambling category. Its description in the app reads "Betting and casino sites".
  3. Accept the system's VPN prompt. The app uses it only to catch DNS lookups.
  4. Tap connect.

A blocked address doesn't load. In a browser you see a page that won't open, and in an app the screen may stay empty or show an error. Close and reopen an app that was already running so it asks again.

How does DNS blocking of betting sites work?

Every site starts with a DNS lookup: your phone asks where the site lives. EZOBLOCKER sends that question, encrypted, to our servers and compares it with the lists of the categories you chose. If the address is a gambling address on our lists, it gets no usable answer, and the page does not load.

The lists stay on our servers, not on your phone, and they refresh every 6 hours. Pages, videos and messages don't pass through us. Open the blocklists page to see where each list comes from.

What does the Gambling category cover?

Betting, casino and similar gambling sites on three open lists: HaGeZi Gambling, the gambling-only list from StevenBlack Hosts and the Block List Project Gambling list. New sites appear all the time, so a brand-new address may not be on the lists yet. If you find one, add it to My list and it is blocked on our server.

How can I make it harder for myself to turn it off?

Wanting a bit of distance from betting is a common reason people install a blocker, and it helps to plan for the moment you change your mind. Two things in the app are made for that:

  • Family lock. It puts a 6-digit PIN in front of turning protection off and changing categories. Ask a trusted person, such as a partner, a sibling or a close friend, to choose the PIN in the setup so you don't know it.
  • Pause is behind the same PIN. With Family lock on, even the short Pause needs the PIN to open the app.

Be honest with yourself about what this is. On iPhone, protection can still be turned off under Settings, VPN, and deleting the app removes the lock. On Android, Always-on VPN brings protection back if it stops. A PIN adds a pause between the urge and the action, and for many people that pause is enough.

The parental control page explains Family lock step by step. It works the same on an adult's phone.

What happens if I need to open a blocked address by mistake?

The Blocked screen lists what was stopped, with a count and the time. Tap Open next to an address to let it through, or add the domain to the Allowed list in My list. That list is checked before the categories, so it overrides them. If Family lock is on, the PIN is needed first.

The Blocked screen is stored only on your phone. You choose how long it keeps entries: off, 24 hours or 7 days, and you can clear it any time.

Does it block gambling apps too?

It blocks the addresses an app needs to reach. If a betting app depends on servers whose addresses are on the lists, it can't load its content. Apps that use their own encrypted DNS or fixed IP addresses can skip a DNS filter, and the Bypass tools category exists to block well-known providers of that kind. The limits page explains this plainly, so you know where DNS protection ends.

Can I add other categories next to it?

Yes. People who block gambling often add Security, which covers harmful and fake sites, and Adult content. Each category is a separate switch. You can run a quick protection check afterwards: if the gambling test address doesn't open, the category is working on your connection.

Does EZOBLOCKER record which sites I visit?

No record of the sites you visit is kept on our servers. Our server knows an anonymous device ID, the categories you chose, the addresses in My list and your subscription status. See the privacy page for the full list of what is and isn't collected.

Questions people ask

Is the Gambling category on by default?

No. Gambling is one of the categories you switch on yourself in the app. Once it is on, the change takes effect in about 30 seconds.

Which lists does the Gambling category use?

HaGeZi Gambling, the gambling-only list from StevenBlack Hosts and the Block List Project Gambling list. The blocklists page shows the sources and the current domain count.

Can I block one more betting site that isn't on the list?

Yes. Add the address to the Blocked list in My list, up to 250 addresses. Subdomains follow the same rule, so adding example.com also covers www.example.com.

Can I make it harder to switch the category off?

Yes. Family lock puts the app's settings behind a 6-digit PIN. If you want that extra step for yourself, you can ask someone you trust to set the PIN so you don't know it. It adds friction, and it isn't a wall.
