# EZOBLOCKER

> EZOBLOCKER is a DNS-based content filter for iPhone and Android by Merasus. It sends DNS lookups, encrypted, to its own servers and blocks the categories you choose there.

- Platforms: iPhone, iPad and Android.
- How it works: the app routes only the phone's DNS lookups through a local tunnel and sends them, encrypted with DNS over HTTPS, to EZOBLOCKER servers. Blocking happens on the servers; the phone holds no blocklist. Other traffic does not pass through EZOBLOCKER servers.
- Privacy: no DNS query logs; anonymous device registration, no account needed to start; the Blocked screen is stored only on the phone.
- Controls: nine categories switched on and off by the user; My list to block or allow any domain; Family lock (PIN) with a fallback chosen by the parent (basic family filter, no internet, or unfiltered) if the servers cannot be reached; pause for 5 min, 30 min or 1 hour; app exclusions on Android only.
- DNS changer: under Advanced the user can switch to a public DNS provider such as Cloudflare Family, AdGuard Family, OpenDNS FamilyShield, Cloudflare, Google, OpenDNS, Quad9, AdGuard or NextDNS.
- Limits: ads served from the same address as the content (video ads inside video apps, sponsored posts in social feeds, many in-game ads) cannot be blocked by DNS. EZOBLOCKER is not a VPN for hiding your IP address or changing location.

- [How to set Private DNS on Android](https://ezoblocker.app/guides/android-private-dns): Private DNS is an Android setting that sends your phone's DNS lookups to a provider you name, encrypted with DNS over TLS. To use a filtering provider, open Private DNS in your network settings, choose the provider hostname option and type the hostname. If you use EZOBLOCKER, leave Private DNS on Off or Automatic, because a typed hostname takes priority over its filter.
